Daniel Radcliffe to star in Privacy in New York

Daniel Radcliffe is to star in James Graham's new play Privacy, which originally ran at the Donamar in 2014.

Co-created by Graham and Donmar artistic director Josie Rourke, the off-Broadway production will open at the Public Theater, New York in June.

Graham and Rourke's last collaboration, The Vote, was recently nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Award.

The production explores how governments and corporations collect and use our personal information, and what that means for our security, our identity and our future. Audiences will be invited to charge their phones and leave them on during the performance in order to stimulate a debate.

Joining Radcliffe onstage will be De'Adre Aziza, Raffi Barsoumian, Michael Countryman, Rachel Dratch, and Reg Rogers.

Commenting on the transfer, director Josie Rourke said: "James and I have been across the U.S. interviewing everyone from politicians, historians, campaigners – even an etiquette expert – about American attitudes to privacy. The show is a risk-taking, fun, and stimulating piece of theatre, that we hope pushes at the boundaries of audience experience. We're thrilled to be working with this exceptional company and world-class theatre, The Public, to share this play with New York."
