Daniel Radcliffe to return to Broadway in Every Brilliant Thing

Daniel Radcliffe will star in the Broadway premiere of Every Brilliant Thing.

Told from the perspective of a child who begins making a list of life’s joys for their mother amid her struggles with depression, the play spans decades, showing how the list shapes their own life. It explores themes of mental health, resilience, and love with humour and emotional depth.

The one-person play, written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, is currently running in the West End, with Minnie Driver performing, following a rotating cast of guest stars.

Tony Award winner Radcliffe will take on the piece on Broadway early next year. He will be directed by Jeremy Herrin and Macmillan.

Macmillan commented: “Every Brilliant Thing tackles some serious subject matter, but the overall experience is one of joy and celebration.”

On the unusual nature of the production, where audience members take on pivotal roles, he said: “Every performance is unique and unpredictable, and it requires virtuosic skill from its central performer.”

The writer and director explained that Radcliffe commented on how much he enjoyed the play. Speaking about the actor, he said: “He has the intelligence, quick wit and charm to roll with the spontaneous moments that the show invites – he can be a clown one moment, then grab you by the heartstrings the next. He has huge depth and humanity. I can’t wait to get started.”

Every Brilliant Thing is designed by Vicki Mortimer, with lighting design by Jack Knowles and sound design by Tom Gibbons. Casting for the Broadway run is by Jessica Ronane, general management is by TT Partners, and the production stage manager is Jhanaë K-C Bonnick. It is produced on Broadway by Second Half Productions, Seaview and Gavin Kalin Productions. The production is presented in association with Paines Plough.

Every Brilliant Thing will run at the Hudson Theatre, New York, from 21 February to 24 May 2026.
