Further casting has been announced for the Donmar Warehouse’s Macbeth.

Joining David Tennant in the production will be Cush Jumbo (Julius Caesar, The Good Place), taking on the role of Lady Macbeth. Jumbo last appeared at the Covent Garden venue in Phyllida Lloyd’s all-female versions of Shakespeare’s Roman history plays. She also took on the role of Hamlet at the Young Vic in late 2021.

“I’m so thrilled that Cush Jumbo will be returning to the Donmar after her extraordinary performance as Mark Antony in the Shakespeare Trilogy to take on the role of Lady Macbeth,” said director Max Webster (Life of Pi, Henry V). “I think she will bring power, emotion, and great humanity to this iconic role and will be absolutely electric alongside David Tennant. I can’t wait to start rehearsals.”

The production opens on 15 December 2023, with previews from 8 December and runs until 10 February 2024. Joining the creative team are Rosanna Vize as the production’s designer, Bruno Poet as lighting designer, Gareth Fry as sound designer, and Shelley Maxwell as movement director.

Tickets for the show go on sale at 9am today.
