Jamie Ballard will lead the cast of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya at Theatr Clwyd in September.

Ballard, whose credits include The White Devil (Shakespeare's Globe) and In the Vale of Heath (Hampstead), will be joined by Robert Blythe (Twelve Angry Men, Garrick) as Telyegin, Oliver Dimsdale (The Argument, Hampstead) as Astrov, and Sharon Morgan (Mother Courage and Her Children, National Theatre Wales) as Mariya.

Completing the cast is Sian Owens as Worker, Shanaya Rafaat (Terror, Lyric Hammersmith) as Elena, Veronica Roberts (After Electra, Tricycle) as Marina, Rosie Sheehy (The Hairy Ape, Old Vic) as Sonya, and Martin Turner (Medea, National Theatre) as Serebryakov.

Uncle Vanya is one of the Chekhov's best-known works and is set on a rural country estate in Russia where quiet family life is disrupted by the arrival of a professor and his young wife.

Peter Gill's adaptation, which is the first co-production between Theatr Clwyd and Sheffield Theatres, will be directed by Clwyd's artistic director Tamara Harvey, and will have design by Lucy Osborne, sound by Jared Zeus and lighting by Ric Mountjoy.

Uncle Vanya runs at Theatr Clwyd from 26 September to 14 October, with previews from 21 September. It will then transfer to the studio at Sheffield Theatres from 18 October until 4 November.
