Denise Gough and Greta Scacchi join Headlong for upcoming productions of ”The Glass Menagerie” and ”People, Places and Things”
Casting has been announced for acclaimed theatre company Headlong's Autumn shows, with the Critics' Circle Award-winning Denise Gough joining the cast of People, Places and Things and Greta Scacchi joining Ellen McDougall's The Glass Menagerie.
Denise Gough plays Emma in Duncan Macmillan’s new play People, Places and Things, directed by Jeremy Herrin at the Dorfman, National Theatre. Gough is joined by Barbara Marten, Kevin McMonagle and Nathaniel Martello-White. Also in the cast are Jacob James Beswick, Alastair Cope and Jacqui Dubois.
Gough received the Critics’ Circle’s award for Most Promising Newcomer in 2012 for her role in Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under the Elms at the Lyric Hammersmith and has previously appeared for Headlong in Six Characters in Search of An Author. Other stage credits include Adler and Gibb (Royal Court), The Duchess of Malfi (Shakespeare’s Globe) and As You Like It (Wyndhams).
People, Places and Things is described as "a mesmeric trip into the tangled world of addiction, treatment and self- awareness'' and runs at the Dorfman from from 25 August – 2 November. Click here for more information and to book tickets.
Greta Scacchi and Tom Mothersdale will be joined by Erin Doherty (Pink Mist, Bristol Old Vic) and Eric Kofi Abrafa in Ellen McDougall’s production of Tennessee Williams’s The Glass Menagerie, a co-production between Headlong, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and West Yorkshire.
Scacchi – whose theatre credits include Bette and Joan (West End/Tour), A Little Night Music (Chatelet Theatre Paris) and Private Lives (Theatre Royal Bath) – plays Amanda opposite Tom Mothersdale who plays Tom. Mothersdale’s stage credits include The Cherry Orchard (Young Vic), King Lear (Chichester/ BAM) and An Ideal Husband.
The production runs at the West Yorkshire Playhouse from 12 September to 3 October and at the Liverpool Playhouse from 7 to 31 October before travelling to Richmond and Warwick.
Casting has also been annouced for the international tour of Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan’s award-winning adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984.
The full cast is Tim Dutton (O’Brien), Simon Coates (Parson), Stephen Fewell (Charrington), Christopher Patrick Nolan (Martin), Ben Porter (Syme), Matthew Spencer (Winston), Mandi Symonds (Mrs Parsons) and Hara Yannas (Julia).
The production embarks on its third tour this Autumn, returning to Nottingham Playhouse and then to Bath before travelling to Australia for the Melbourne Festival and then to the US in 2016 performing in California, Boston and Washington.
The production, co-produced by Headlong, Nottingham Playhouse and Almeida Theatre, is currently playing at London’s Playhouse Theatre for the second time, where the show will run until 5 September 2015. Click here for more information and to book tickets.
