Cast for Lark Rise to Candleford stage adaptation confirmed

The Watermill Theatre and Theatre by the Lake have announced casting and creative details for Lark Rise to Candleford, written by Tamsin Kennard and based on Flora Thompson’s book.

The co-production, created with Hammerpuzzle Theatre Company, will run at the Watermill Theatre from 6 February to 14 March, with a national press night on 10 February, before transferring to Theatre by the Lake from 26 March to 18 April, with a press night on 27 March.

The adaptation centres on Laura and her upbringing in the rural community of Lark Rise, charting her move to the nearby town of Candleford and the changes that follow as she encounters new people, work and expectations. The production uses original music performed by the cast.

Rosalind Ford will play Dorcas Lane, with Christopher Glover appearing as Father and Uncle John. Zrey Sholapurkar will play Godfrey Parish, Rosalind Steele will appear as Mother, Jessica Temple takes on the role of Laura and Alex Wilson will play Edmund.

Kennard has written and composed the piece, with direction by Bryn Holding. The creative team includes Anna Kelsey as set and costume designer, Jane Lalljee as lighting designer, Anna Short as sound designer, and movement direction by Patsy Browne-Hope. Jason Addison is associate lighting designer and programmer.

The stage management team comprises Cat Pewsey as company stage manager for the Watermill Theatre, Sophie Acreman as company manager for Theatre by the Lake, and Andrea Claire as deputy stage manager. Casting is by Cydney Beech and Claire Dunk.
