The new musical is based on the hit TV series
A workshop presentation for Maid Marian and Her Merry Men: A New Musical* (*sort of) has been announced, based on Tony Robinson’s hit BBC TV series.
The musical is written by Olivier Award-winning writer Vikki Stone (Hey Duggee: The Live Theatre Show and Cinderella at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre) and directed and developed by Benji Sperring (An Act Of God and The Toxic Avenger). The musical supervisor is Paul Schofield, while the sound designer is Dan Samson, with further creative team members to be revealed by the production.
The workshop, in preparation for an anticipated UK premiere later in the year, will offer a first look at the show on Thursday 25 January at 3pm at Soho Theatre.
Stone expressed her delight about working on Maid Marian, stating: “It was one of my absolute favourite kids TV shows in the ‘90s, and I couldn’t be more excited to be working with comedy legend Sir Tony Robinson on this wonderful show.”
The cast includes Bronté Barbé (Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder, Newsies) as Maid Marian, Stone as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Nick Helm (known for playing Andy in the BBC Three sitcom Uncle) as King John, Myles Miller (Beautiful – The Carole King Musical) as Robin Hood, Marek Larwood (Black Ops) as Rabies, Damien James (The Play That Goes Wrong) as Barrington, Marc Pickering (Bleak Expectations) as Little Ron, Michelle Bishop (Cabaret at Kit Kat Klub) as Gary, and Natasha Lewis (The Boy In The Dress) as Graham.
Produced by Thomas Hopkins, Guy Chapman, and John Rogerson, further plans for the production will be revealed in due course.
