Barbican announces new autumn season

The Barbican Centre has announced its 2017 autumn and winter season.

From 13 to 16 September, Landmark Productions And Galway International Arts Festival will present Woyzeck in Winter, a mix between Büchner’s Woyzeck interwoven with songs from Schubert’s Winterreise. It will be performed by Patrick O’Kane and Camille O’Sullivan, and directed by Conall Morrison. The cast will also include Stephen Brennan, Rosaleen Linehan and Barry McGovern, all of whom have previously appeared at the Barbican.

Ninagawa Company will return to the UK with its production of Macbeth, 30 years after Japanese director Yukio Ninagawa made his UK debut with the piece. Performed in Japanese with English surtitles, Masachika Ichimura and Yuko Tanaka will lead the cast. The piece will run from 5 to 8 October before a short run in Plymouth (13 and 14 October). The Barbican are reprising the piece in celebration of the late director who passed away last year.

Four productions from the RSC's Rome season will run at the theatre in the winter. Angus Jackson's Coriolanus, starring Sope Dirisu will run from 6 to 18 November, and Jackson's production of Julius Caesar, starring Andrew Woodall and Alex Waldmann, will run from 24 November to 20 January. Iqbal Khan's Antony & Cleopatra will run from 30 November to 20 January and star Josette Simon and Antony Byrne with music from Laura Mvula. Blanche McIntyre's Titus Andronicus will also transfer, running from 7 December to 19 January 2018.

The Famous Lauren Barri Holstein will present her piece Notorious, which looks at the ways media and consumerism have altered our relationship with the human body, from 7 to 11 November.

nitroBEAT will bring Suckerpunch Boom Suite, inspired by New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, to the Barbican. The piece responds to some of the themes in Basquiat's work through experimental sound, lyricism and poetry set to free jazz, hip-hop, electronic and psychedelic funk played live by a band. It will run on 29 and 30 September.

Michael Clark's Olivier Award-nominated to a simple, rock ‘n’ roll . . . song will return to the Barbican from 18 to 28 October, and Toneelgroep Amsterdam's After the Rehearsal/Persona, based on the films by Ingmar Bergman, will run from 27 to 30 September.

Spanish dancer Rocío Molina will perform the flamenco Fallen from Heaven (Caída del Cielo) from 12 to 14 October, as part of this year’s Dance Umbrella.

Winners of this year's Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award, Mars.tarrab, will perform ROLLER from 23 November to 2 December. It looks at the popularity of female-focused roller derby.

In December, the egg theatre and Travelling Light Theatre Company will present Snow Mouse, a story about a magical forest for babies and their families, from 13 to 23 December.
