Annie to return to Broadway for 50th anniversary

A 50th anniversary revival of Annie will hit Broadway in the autumn of 2027.

This new production will be directed by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton (Oh, Mary!, Ceilidh). Further details will be announced at a later date.

Annie features a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Martin Charnin, who also directed the original Broadway production. The musical is based on the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie.”

Annie premiered at the Goodspeed Opera House in 1976 before a pre-Broadway engagement at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The musical opened on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre) on April 21, 1977.

Nominated for 11 Tony Awards at the 1977 Tony Awards, Annie won seven, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Dorothy Loudon), Best Choreography, Best Scenic Design, and Best Costume Design.
