Angels in America announces Broadway transfer

The National Theatre's revival of Angels in America, directed by Marianne Elliot and starring Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane, has announced it will transfer to Broadway next year for an 18 week run.

The show will open at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York on 23 February, with official opening night on 21 March.

Alongside Lane and Garfield, the majority of the original cast (Susan Brown, Denise Gough, Amanda Lawrence, James McArdle, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) will return to the show, though Russell Tovey is not billed. Further casting is to be announced.

Elliott will return to direct, while Elliott & Harper, the new production company set up by Elliott and Chris Harper, joins as a producer on the show.

In a joint statement, NT artistic director Rufus Norris, NT producer Tim Levy, and Jujamcyn Theaters president Jordan Roth said: "It has been twenty-five years since its original Broadway production, and it is now time for an entirely new generation to be mesmerized, stirred, and astonished by its humor, poetry, and power at a time that feels more relevant than ever."

Tickets go on sale at 10am on 27 October.
