Nicholas Hytner directs Bennett’s new play, which is set in a Yorkshire geriatric ward
Casting has been announced for Alan Bennett's newest play Allelujah!, which opens at the Bridge Theatre in July.
Set in a Yorkshire geriatric ward, the piece marks Bennett's first new play since People, which premiered at the National Theatre in 2012.
Appearing in the production, which is directed by Nicholas Hytner, will be Sam Barnett (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Sacha Dhawan (Iron Fist, Netflix), Gwen Taylor (Duty Free), Deborah Findlay (The Children), Peter Forbes (Follies), Nicola Hughes (Yellowman), Simon Williams (Upstairs, Downstairs) and David Moorst (Shopping and F**king).
Also in the cast are Sam Bond, Jacqueline Chan, Jacqueline Clarke, Rosie Ede, Patricia England, Julia Foster, Manish Gandhi, Colin Haigh, Richard Hart, Nadine Higgin, Anna Lindup, Louis Mahoney, David Moorst, Jeff Rawle, Cleo Sylvestre, Gwen Taylor, Sue Wallace, Duncan Wisbey and Gary Wood.
The production will have design by Bob Crowley, lighting by Natasha Chivers and music by George Fenton. Arlene Phillips will also provide choreography for the piece.
Barnett and Dhawan reunite with Hytner and Bennett following their award-winning production of The History Boys, which first opened at the National before running both in the West End and on Broadway, while also being adapted into a film.
