The Oscar nominee could be set for a reunion with director Rob Marshall
Following the big screen success of Into the Woods, another Stephen Sondheim show, Follies – a concert version of which has just been announced at the Royal Albert Hall – could be in line for a cinematic makeover.
According to the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye, Into the Woods director Rob Marshall is keen to make Follies his next movie musical project. And Meryl Streep, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for her role as The Witch in Into the Woods, is apparently in line to star.
"If the Follies film ever went ahead, then Meryl would play either Phyllis Rogers Stone or Sally Durant Plummer, the two main former chorus girls who married their stage-door beaux," says Bamigboye.
Further good news for Sondheim fans is that Streep also reportedly has a "soft spot" for Company, another Sondheim show that has a role tailor-made for the Hollywood star. Watch this space!
