We recently caught up with Aled to find out a few of his favourite things…
Film?
I don't really have a favourite film or TV series, but if I had to choose something I used to adore the Friends series – such brilliant comedy and writing. These days, thanks to my son, all I ever watch are the cartoons Adventure Time and Regular Show!
Place to hangout in London?
I really love the new Olympic cinema in Barnes, South West London. I'm a founder member and am really proud of the place! It has a great restaurant and bar – and two fab cinemas too.
Restaurant?
One of my favourite locals is an Italian restaurant called Riva – I'd order one of the specials of the day, washed down with one of owner Andrea's special reds.
Holiday destination?
If I had the money, Mustique every time as I really love the peace and tranquillity there. Macaroni beach at sunset – paradise for me.
Show that you have seen?
Les Mis made the most impact on me as a child. I learnt every word from it on endless train journeys from Wales to London.
Theatre Venue?
Nothing compares to Theatre Royal Drury Lane. There are lots of close seconds though including the Palladium and Bristol Old Vic (where I went to college), and I will always have a soft spot for the Royal in Northampton where I acted for the first time. Also, I love the State Theatre in Sydney. I'm enjoying playing the Dominion too.
Memory of the West End?
Singing Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem in the Palace Theatre when I was a child, and secretly being more excited about the fact that I was performing where Les Mis was on!
Musical Performer?
For voice – Colm Wilkinson and Claire Moore. For acting – there is nobody better than Imelda Staunton.
Song in White Christmas?
"Count Your Blessings" – it's a fabulous moment of calm in a full-on musical.
Thing about Christmas?
Tradition – I love it! From our wonderful Christmas carols, to the Christmas tree, to the meal. I love just spending time with family and enjoying the excitement of the day through the eyes of my kids.
