The shortlist for this year's Society of Theatre Research Theatre Book Prize has been announced, with the winner to be revealed on 21 June.

Judged by a panel including Orange Tree Theatre's AD Paul Miller, theatre critic Sam Marlowe and professor Jeffery Richards, the six nominees are Balancing Acts by Nicholas Hytner, Black British Drama – A Transnational Story by Michael Pearce, Child Actors on the London Stage, c 1600 by Julie Ackroyd, Costume in Performance by Donatella Barbieri, London Theatres by Michael Coveney and Peter Dazeley, and Shakespeare on Stage: Vol 2 – Twelve Leading Actors on Twelve Key Roles by Julian Curry.

The shortlist, which features books published in 2017, was chosen from an entry of 60 titles submitted by publishers. Established in 1998 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Society for Theatre Research, the Theatre Boo Prize is presented annually for a new book on British or British related theatre.
