Joy Wilkinson's The Sweet Science of Bruising will transfer to Wilton's Musical Hall in east London this summer.

The hit piece, which originally opened at Southwark Playhouse in 2018, follows a group of female boxers in 1869. It will now run at Wilton's, the world's oldest grand music hall, from 7 to 29 June with previews from 5 June.

Wilkinson, who is a current writer on Doctor Who, said: "From the very beginning, I had this fantasy about staging the play at Wilton's, and I'm beyond thrilled that it's finally become a reality. Wilton's is the perfect setting, it opened shortly before our story begins and is exactly the kind of place where you would find our characters."

The piece is directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward, who helmed the Fringe First-winning Chef, with fight direction by Kate Waters, design by Anna Reid, sound design and composition by Max Perryment and lighting by Peter Harrison.

Casting for the Wilton's production of the show is to be announced.
