Mark Ravenhill's provocative play Shopping and F***ing will be returning to the stage 20 years after its premiere, as it completes the Lyric Hammersmith's autumn season.

Directed by Olivier Award winner Sean Holmes (Blasted, Bugsy Malone), the play follows a group of young adults exploring what would happen if consumerism supersedes all other moral codes.

Renowned for its black humour, the play looks at how adult lives have seemingly been reduced to a series of transactions.

Originally encapsulating Britain in the '90s (the main characters are named after Take That), Ravenhill said he is "looking forward to seeing what a new generation of theatre audiences make of the play."

"It’s very exciting that they are reviving my first play Shopping and F***ing, twenty years after it premiered."

In Holmes' production, some audience members will be seated on the stage.

Shopping and F***ing will run at the Lyric Hammersmith 12 October – 5 November.
