Casting has been announced for the UK tour of Shakespeare in Love, which is due to open at Theatre Royal Bath on 4 October.
The new production will star Pierro Niel-Mee as William Shakespeare with Imogen Daines as Viola, Rob Edwards as Fennyman, Geraldine Alexander as the Queen, Edmund Kingsley as Kit Marlowe, Bill Ward as Wessex, Ian Hughes as Henslowe, Giles Taylor as Tilney and De Lesseps, Edward Harrison as Burbage and Philip Labey as Sam.
The cast also includes Rowan Polonski as Ned Alleyn/Catling, Kevin N Golding as Lambert/Wabash, Joshua Richards as Frees/Ralph, Jonathan Blaydon as Nol/Valentine, Richard Rowe McGhie as Adam, Rosalind Steele as Molly, Toby Webster as Peter/Robin and Jazmine Wilkinson as Webster/Mistress Quickly.
The play is Lee Hall's adaptation of Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard's screenplay, which starred Judi Dench, Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow. Shakespeare in Love originally ran in the West End in 2014. This production will be directed by Phillip Breen with design from Max Jones, lighting from Tina MacHugh, sound from Dyfan Jones, movement from Ayse Tashkiran and music from Paddy Cunneen. As well as Bath, the show tours to Nottingham, Malvern, Oxford, Edinburgh and more.
The play follows Will Shakespeare, who has writer's block and the deadline is approaching for his new play and he needs inspiration. That comes in the form of Viola de Lesseps, who is willing to do anything to make her dream of performing happen.
