National Youth Theatre extends West End season

The second NYT rep season at the Ambassadors Theatre features ''Selfie, Macbeth'' and ''Private Peaceful''

The National Youth Theatre has extended its current West End rep season by two weeks.

The season, featuring productions of Selfie, Private Peaceful and Macbeth performed by a rep company of 15 young actors, is running at the Ambassadors Theatre.

The NYT has also announced some impressive diversity statistics today, including that 26% of the NYT rep company are BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic), while 52 percent of NYT performers are female, compared to 38 percent in the top ten subsidised theatres.

Gavinder Singh Chera, Simon Lennon and Zainab Hasan, all on stage with the National Youth Theatre in 2013, will make their professional debuts at the National Theatre, the Almeida Theatre and the Donmar Warehouse respectively this autumn.

NYT artistic director Paul Roseby said: "The success of Gavi, Zainab, Simon a is testament to the quality and value of these vital alternative routes into the industry, and of course their unique talent.

"Our recruitment policy of 'ban the bland' and to discover the best of young British talent regardless of their background, ethnicity or gender. They are the future. We are championing the alternative as we strive to create free opportunities that remove financial barriers and allow diverse talent to thrive."
