Goldie will play a gang leader

Actor and DJ Goldie has been cast in Roy Williams' new play Kingston 14, which premieres at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East from 3 to 26 April 2014 (previews from 28 March).

Set in modern day Jamaica, the play centres on police corruption and will feature Goldie in the lead role of Joker, a "much-feared and admired gang leader".

The production is directed by Clint Dyer, designed by the Olivier award-winner ULTZ, with composition and sound design by Richard Hammarton.

Goldie, whose film credits include Snatch and The World is Not Enough, will be joined in the cast by Brian Bovell, Trevor Laird, Charles Venn, Ashley Chin, Gamba Cole, Derek Elroy and Tyson Oba.

Roy Williams returns to Stratford East, where his first professional play, The No Boys Cricket Club, was staged at in 1996.
