Exclusive: Casting announced for A Lie of the Mind at Southwark Playhouse

”Game of Thrones” actor Gethin Anthony will appear in Defibrillator’s production of Sam Shepard’s play

Game of Thrones actor Gethin Anthony will star in Defibrillator's production of A Lie of the Mind at the Southwark Playhouse.

Sam Shepard's play is about two families who are torn apart by spousal abuse. It will open in The Large space on 8 May, with previews from 4 May. The play first opened off-Broadway at the Promenade Theater in December 1985, and in the following year it won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play.

Anthony is best known for playing Renly Baratheon in Game of Thrones, and his previous stage work includes What Fatima Did (Hampstead Theatre) and A Life of Galileo and Boris Gondonuv (RSC). He will play Jake in the play.

Defibrillator artistic director James Hillier will direct the cast which includes Kate Fahy (Handbagged, UK tour), Robert Lonsdale (Plaques and Tangles, Royal Court), Laura Rogers (Winter Solstice, Orange Tree) and John Stahl (The Winter’s Tale, Lyceum Theatre).

Defibrillator's production of Speech and Debate, starring Douglas Booth, is currently running at Trafalgar Studios.

A Lie of the Mind will run at the Southwark Playhouse from 8 to 28 May, with previews from 4 May.
