Full casting has been announced for the world premiere of the new musical Groundhog Day, which opens for previews at the Old Vic in July.

Carlyss Peer (Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare's Globe), will play Rita Hanson alongside the previously announced Andy Karl (On the Twentieth Century, Rocky) as Phil Connors.

The cast will be completed by Leo Andrew, David Birch, Ste Clough, Roger Dipper, Georgina Hagen, Kieran Jae, Julie Jupp, Andrew Langtree, Vicki Lee Taylor, Emma Lindars, Antonio Magro, Carolyn Maitland, Kirsty Malpass, Lisa Mathieson, Eugene McCoy, Jenny O’Leary, Leanne Pinder, Mark Pollard, Damien Poole, Jack Shalloo, Andrew Spillett and Spencer Stafford.

Adapted from the hit 1993 film starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, Groundhog Day centres on a TV weatherman who, when sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, finds himself caught in a time loop where he is forced to repeat the same day over and over.

Directed by Matthew Warchus with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, it features choreography by their Matilda collaborator Peter Darling and a book by Danny Rubin.

Groundhog Day opens at the Old Vic on 16 August.
