Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 the Musical to embark on tour

Dolly Parton's iconic 9 to 5 the Musical will embark on a new UK tour it has been announced.

The show will play in 11 cities in the UK and Ireland and open at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham on 6 September, before heading to Manchester, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Glasgow, Woking, Aberdeen, Cardiff, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Dublin. Casting for the show is yet to be announced.

The London production of the show is currently booking until 31 August 2019 and stars Caroline Sheen (until 23 March), Amber Davies, Natalie McQueen, Bonnie Langford and Brian Conley. Louise Redknapp is to join the cast from 25 March to 29 June.

Based on the 1980 movie of the same name, 9 to 5 premiered in Los Angeles over ten years ago before opening on Broadway in 2009, where it received 15 Drama Desk Award nominations and four Tony Award nominations. It had its UK premiere in 2012, embarking on a UK tour and starring Jackie Clune, Natalie Casey, Amy Lennox, Ben Richards and Bonnie Langford.

It tells the story of Doralee, Violet and Judy – three colleagues who rebel against their sexist and egotistical boss. The musical is written by Patricia Resnick, with music and lyrics from Parton. Jeff Calhoun directs, with choreography from Lisa Stevens, design by Tom Rogers, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Poti Martin, video design by Nina Dunn, original arrangements by Stephen Oremus and Alex Lacamoire, original Broadway orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin, musical supervisor, reductions an extra arrangements by Mark Crossland, musical direction by Andrew Hilton and casting by Victoria Roe.
