The National Theatre and Disney are reportedly teaming up on a stage musical version of Pinocchio.

A spokesperson for the National told the Daily Mail that talks with Disney are 'ongoing'.

The production will be directed by John Tiffany and written by Enda Walsh.

According to the Mail's Baz Bamigboye, "if a workshop later this year is successful, Pinocchio will be given the green light and premiere at the National in time for Christmas 2016."

It's shaping up to be a busy year for director Tiffany. It was recently announced that he will direct Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, which opens at the Palace Theatre next summer.

The Pinocchio creative team also includes designer Bob Crowley and choreographer and movement director Steven Hoggett.

Pinnochio, as if you need reminding, centres on a puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy.

The show will reportedly include the songs "When You Wish Upon A Star", "Give A Little Whistle", "Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee (An Actor’s Life For Me)", "Little Wooden Head" and "I’ve Got No Strings", with further Disney songs from the era being "made available".
