An Audience with Doreen (Birmingham)
A comedic and political look at the life of Doreen Tipton, the first woman in Britain to be diagnosed with 'lazy cow syndrome'.
After performing across the Midlands in her one woman show, Doreen Tipton is back on an even further extended tour that brings An Audience with Doreen to Sutton Coldfield's Highbury Little Theatre.
Produced by Flying Ducks and written by David Tristram, the story follows Black Country born, single mother Doreen and her quest into the working world (or not as the case turns out to be). The script is full of witty one-lines and some excellent cultural references to modern day Britain. As the first woman diagnosed with ‘lazy cow syndrome', this production pokes fun at the welfare state with the jokes receiving a rapture of laughter due to their truthfulness.
Gill Jordan's humour as Doreen is the highlight of the show. Her interaction with the audience and other characters demonstrate her terrific ability to capture the essence of the politically charged script with the upmost of comedic delivery.
The production continues on a short Midlands tour.
