Lend Me a Tenor for West End Musical???

A musical adaptation of Ken Ludwig’s Olivier and Tony Award-winning play Lend Me A Tenor, first seen at the Utah Shakespearean Festival in 2007, could be heading for the West End towards the end of 2010.

With book and lyrics by Peter Sham, music by Brad Carroll and Ian Talbot reportedly directing, the farce revolves around renowned tenor Tito Merelli, known as “Il Stupendo”, as he prepares to perform his greatest role, Otello. Things go wrong at the final dress rehearsal though, as a case of mistaken identity, double entendres and innuendoes threaten to ruin the show.

The show apparently is casting now, with plans in place for a short run to take place in Plymouth before potentially transferring to the West End sometime in the Autumn. There is also a Broadway revival of the play planned for next year.
