Michael Sheen's girlfriend Rachel McAdams brought a bit of Hollywood glamour to the Young Vic last night as she watched her man make his debut in Hamlet.

Other guests on opening night included Kristin Scott Thomas, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, the Mighty Boosh's Julian Barratt and his partner Julia Davis.

The production, helmed by former Royal Court artistic director Ian Rickson, making his Shakespearean debut, marks Sheen’s first Shakespearean role since Henry V for the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1997, and his first time on the London stage since Frost/Nixon, which began at the Donmar Warehouse in 2006 ahead of the West End, Broadway and the big screen.

The cast also includes James Clyde as Claudius, Sally Dexter as Gertrude, Michael Gould as Polonius, Vinette Robinson as Ophelia, Hayley Carmichael as Horatio and Benedict Wong as Laertes. Hamlet continues at the Young Vic until 21 January.
