National Theatre Wales’ Lucy Davies appointed Royal Court executive director

Lucy Davies has been appointed the Royal Court’s new executive director. She will take up her post in April 2013, joining National Theatre of Scotland’s Vicky Featherstone when she succeeds Dominic Cooke as the venue’s artistic director.

Davies is currently executive producer at National Theatre Wales, which she founded in 2009 with artistic director John McGrath.

Previously she was executive producer at the Donmar Warehouse, working alongside Michael Grandage. Prior to this she was Head of Studio at the National Theatre under Nicholas Hytner, as well as working as Literary Manager at the Donmar in the 90s. She started her career as an assistant director at Kneehigh Theatre.

She said of her new role: “I am so thrilled to be joining Vicky at the Court – a theatre that’s been a touchstone for me throughout my career. Dominic and Kate are gifting us a Royal Court in incredible shape – it’s a privilege to be tasked with its next era, alongside such a visionary partner in Vicky, and such an outstanding team.”

Anthony Burton, chair of the Royal Court board, said: “I am delighted that Lucy Davies will be joining Vicky Featherstone in April next year to take the Royal Court into a new and exciting era. Lucy stood out among exceptionally talented and experienced applicants for this vital appointment.”
