According to the Daily Mail, today’s announcement of Iain Glen’s revival of Ibsen’s 1881 classic Ghosts, starring Lesley Sharp as Mrs Alving (See Today’s News), has almost definitely put the kybosh on another production of the same play that had also been in the works for an early 2010 opening.

The “losing” rival would have been led by Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall, directed by former NT artistic director Richard Eyre and produced by Sonia Friedman. Rehearsals had been due to commence in January, but if it goes ahead, it’s likely to be postponed so as not to go head-to-head with the Sharp-Glen offering, which runs from 8 February to 15 May 2010.

Though she became internationally famous as sex-craved Samantha in Sex and the City, American Kim Cattrall treads the boards fairly regularly and seems to like to do so in London, where her credits in recent years have included Whose Life Is It Anyway? and The Cryptogram.
