OperaUpClose Bring Hansel & Gretel to Hackney???

At our Whatsonstage.com Outing to Don Giovanni at the Soho Theatre last night, we scooped a bit of an exclusive from multi award-winning company OperaUpClose.

During our post-show Q&A (attended by over 100 WOS Theatregoers), director/adaptor Robin Norton-Hale was asked about her next project, to which she replied:

“Harry (Blake) and I are talking about writing a new opera of Hansel and Gretel, that would be nothing like the Humperdinck. It would probably be set in Hackney and be about two posh kids terrorising a not-posh old lady and eating her furniture.”

Don Giovanni, which continues until the end of September, is the second production from OperaUpClose to run at the Soho following its Olivier and Whatsonstage.com Award-winning production of La Boheme last year.
