Broadway stars & Julian Glover lead Young Vic's Scottsboro Boys

By • West End

Casting has been announced for the Young Vic's forthcoming UK premiere of Kander and Ebb musical The Scottsboro Boys.

Colman Domingo and Forrest McClendon, the Tony-nominated stars of the original Broadway production, join Game of Thrones star Julian Glover and Coronation Street's Dawn Hope.

Domingo recently appeared in Steven Spielberg's Oscar winning epic Lincoln, and reprises his role as Mr Bones, alongside McClendon as Mr Tambo. Also joining the Young Vic cast fresh from Broadway are Christian Dante-White (Charles Weems) and Clinton Roane (Roy Wright).

Olivier Award-winner Glover plays The Interlocutor. His extensive work on stage includes the lead in The Voysey Inheritance (National Theatre), King Lear (Shakespeare's Globe), Richard II (Old Vic), Galileo's Daughter (Bath/Peter Hall Company) and Oliver! (West End).

Dawn Hope will play The Lady. Her work in the theatre includes Porgy and Bess and Piaf in the West End, as well as Rupert Goold's Rough Crossing (Headlong/Lyric Hammersmith and UK tour). She is well known to Coronation Street viewers for playing the character Alison Soames.

The Scottsboro Boys, which premiered Off-Broadway in 2010, tells the true story of nine young black men, aged between 12 and 19, who were falsely accused of rape by two white women while travelling on a train through Scottsboro, Alabama in the 1930s. Their subsequent trials and appeals, lasting seven years, deeply divided the nation.

The Young Vic cast also includes: Adebayo Bolaji (Clarence Norris), Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton (Olen Montgomery), Carl Spencer (Andy Wright), Martin Bishop, Susan Reynolds and Jordan Shaw.

The Scottsboro Boys runs from 18 October to 23 November in the Young Vic's main house.
