Casting announced for Night of 1000 Stars, Hal Prince honoured

Casting has been announced for The Night of 1000 Stars, the annual charity gala celebrating musical theatre which takes place at the Royal Albert Hall on 5 May 2013.

This year’s event will be hosted by Alan Titchmarsh and celebrate the work of legendary director Hal Prince. The evening will raise funds for Gloria Hunniford’s cancer support charity The Caron Keating Foundation.

Stars confirmed to appear include Whatsonstage.com Award nominees Heather Headley and Debbie Kurup (The Bodyguard), Denise van Outen and Tiffany Graves (Chicago), Katie Rowley-Jones (Wicked), Alex Bourne (Kiss Me Kate), Ian Knauer (Mamma Mia!), Marcus Lovett, Shona Lindsay and Tabitha Webb (The Phantom of the Opera) and Kristen Beth Williams (Top Hat).

Also taking part will be Danish actor Christian Lund, composer Jason Robert Brown, Kenneth Nichols (Show Boat) and Len Cariou (Blue Bloods on SKY Atlantic). The performers will be accompanied by the West End Chorus, Stephen Disley (organ), violin soloist Diana Yukawa and The City of London Philharmonic.

The Night of 1000 Stars – formerly called The Night of 1000 Voices – has been a fixture at the Royal Albert Hall since 1999 and has raised nearly half a million pounds for UK-based charities.

This year’s event will pay tribute to the “King of Broadway”, multi-award winning director Harold ‘Hal’ Prince, with musical items from shows including Evita, West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, The Phantom of the Opera, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Follies, Company, Cabaret, Candide and Parade.

Kevin Amos and Stuart Morley will again supervise the music, with
choreography by Kevan Allen and the English National Ballet’s Dmitri
Gruzdyev and direction by Hugh Wooldridge.

Gloria Hunniford said: “We receive no Government support and our Foundation, in the name of our gorgeous Caron, is entirely reliant on generous people coming together to raise funds and awareness of the scourge of cancer. We are so grateful to everyone for supporting the Caron Keating Foundation. Thank you all.”
