The cast of Howard Brenton's The Shadow Factory, the inaugural production at Southampton's brand new theatre, has been announced.

The venue's director Samuel Hodges will direct David Birrell (Sweeney Todd), Catherine Cusack (Bingo), Lorna Fitzgerald (EastEnders), making her stage debut, Hilton McRae (Les Liaisons Dangereuses) and Daniel York (The Merchant of Venice) in the show. It is created alongside Tony Award-winning video designers 59 Productions, who recently oversaw the video design for An American in Paris. The company will also create an installation to allow audiences to explore the story behind the play.

The piece looks at the courage of the residents of Southampton as they built Spitfires in the midst of German bombing during the Second World War.

NST, Nuffield Southampton Theatres, is situated in the heart of the city and has a 450 seat main house alongside a 133 seat studio. It is part of the city's Studio 144 initiative to build a new arts facility. Read more about The Shadow Factory's announcement here.

The Shadow Factory runs at the NST City, Southampton from 16 February to 2 March.
