My Top 5 Showtunes: Rita Simons

The actress tells us the musical numbers she couldn’t live without

Rita Simons is best known for playing Roxy Mitchell in EastEnders. She is soon to embark on the UK tour of Legally Blonde.

We caught up with Rita and asked her: "If you were stranded on a desert island which five showtunes could you not live without?"

Book tickets for Legally Blonde

1. "Defying Gravity" from Wicked

I love Wicked, it's probably one of my favourite musicals and my kids love this song.

2. "The Glory of Love" from Beaches

It's my dream to play CC Bloom in a remake of Beaches.

3. "Find My Way/Finale" from Legally Blonde

Over the past three weeks I have fallen in love with this song, and of course my character Paulette gets her happy ending here too.

4. "Memory" from Cats

My dad was a wonderful musician – he's still with us, he just doesn't play anymore! Growing up he would play this on his guitar and I would be his very small vocalist. It's one of the first songs I remember singing.

5. "Happy Days/Get Happy"

At EastEnders Sam Womack and I used to sing this duet all the time. We even tried to work it into a scene once – but I doubt Roxy would've been aware of the song in reality!
