As previously reported, Mike Kenny‘s Olivier award-winning stage adaptation of the classic novel The Railway Children by E. Nesbit will return, coming to London on 16 December 2014 in a brand new venue.

The York Theatre Royal production, which is produced in association with the National Railway Museum, will be staged in a purpose built 1,000-seat theatre, complete with a railway track and platforms, specially created for the run that is currently booking until 1 March 2015. The production will, as before, feature a live 60-tonne steam locomotive and Gentleman’s Carriage.

The new site for the production will be on King’s Boulevard, behind King’s Cross Station, and has been loaned to the production for the duration of the run by Google, who own the land. The King's Cross run is in support of the "Railway Children Charity", who help homeless and runaway children internationally, with £1 from every ticket sold going directly to the charity.

Following this London run, The Railway Children, will reopen at the National Railway Museum in York, it's original home, from 31 July to 6 September 2015. Chief executive of the York Theatre Royal, Liz Wilson said they are "delighted to be bringing the production to this wonderful new location in London".

Directed by Damian Cruden, with design by Jo Scotcher, lighting by Richard G. Jones, music by Christopher Madin and sound by Craig Vear, The Railway Children tells the story of three siblings. Relocated from London to rural Yorkshire, the story follows them as they adapt to their new home, while desperate to solve the mystery of their missing father.

Casting is to be announced for the production.
