Open auditions announced for Hairspray UK tour

The production returns for a new tour, beginning in Cardiff in August

Open auditions have been announced for the character of Tracy Turnblad in the UK tour of Hairspray.

The casting notice says that candidates must be heavyset, shorter than 5 foot 3 inches, and aged in their mid-twenties with a playing age of 16. You should be a 'strong pop belt singer' and a 'great mover'.

The open auditions will take place at Pineapple Dance Studios in London on 6 February 2017. Registration is open from 9:30am until 12pm, auditions run from 10am to 6pm. Auditionees should prepare a verse and a chorus of "Good Morning Baltimore" and take their CV and a headshot.

The tour starts in Cardiff on 16 August 2017 and you must be available to begin rehearsals on 17 July.

Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan's musical had its original West End premiere in 2007 at the Shaftesbury Theatre, before winning four Olivier Awards including for Best New Musical. This production is directed by Paul Kerryson and has choreography by Drew McOnie. It tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, who is on a mission to dance her way onto national TV.

Hairspray opens at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from 16 to 26 August.
