Both the matinee and evening performance of Dreamgirls in London's West End have been cancelled today due to cast illness.

A statement released on the show's Twitter page said: "The producers have investigated all available options to try to proceed with performances, however the number of cast members unavailable due to illness mean that circumstances lie outside of the producers control."

Ticket holders are advised to contact their point of sale for a full refund.

Audience members have taken to Twitter to complain about the absence of Amber Riley from last night's show. The actress, who plays Effie White, was instead performing on the Royal Variety Performance, which was filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo last night.

Riley is scheduled to play the role for 7 out of 8 performances per week. However a notice on the show's website says the producers cannot guarantee the appearance of any particular artist.

Dreamgirls, which is making its UK premiere at the Savoy, charts the story of a female singing trio from Chicago called The Dreams in the 60s and 70s.
