Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is 50 years old!

Special event held to celebrate the anniversary of the publication of Roald Dahl’s book

Everyone remembers reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when they were young, but not everyone would guess that this family favourite is celebrating it's 50th, yes that's right FIFTIETH, anniversary this year.

Roald Dahl's grandson Luke Kelly and the WhatsOnStage Award nominated actor Nigel Planer, currently starring as Grandpa Joe in the musical adaptation of the book, launched celebrations at the Southbank Centre on Friday by reading the book to children from Dyslexia Action, on a great big story-telling bed.

The Imagine Children's Festival is taking place at the Southbank Centre until Sunday 23 February.
