Last Orders

Sawney Bean was, or possibly wasn’t, a 16th Century Scottish cannibal who lead a murderous tribe of bloody thirsty killers. Bean and his grisly gang dispatched many a soul and lived on the proceeds.

Set in flashy mirrored disco, choreographer Al Seed has created this dance theatre piece about the legend. A nightmarish, circus freakshow, which contains the odd striking images but is disappointingly short on original ideas.

The gruesome story is ripe for a theatrical or dance representation but it really is difficult to work out what is going on. As an audience member, I don’t mind doing some of the work but resent being left totally at sea.

The talented performers work hard but are let down by the jumble of incoherent ideas on display.
