Dan Jones has been announced as the new artistic director of the Welsh pub theatre The Other Room.

Jones was one of the theatre's first trainee directors and became an associate director earlier this year. His previous stage credits include co-directing Constellation Street (with Chelsey Gillard), BLINK (both for The Other Room) and The Man (Critical Ambition).

He takes over from the Cardiff theatre's co-founder Kate Wasserberg as she goes on to become the co-artistic director at Out of Joint.

Ben Atterbury, who was a founding member of the theatre's team as marketing officer, will also become associate artistic director.

On taking the role, Jones said he was "honoured" by the appointment, describing The Other Room as a "breakthrough theatre".

He added: "The Other Room is made up of a team of young, brave and immensely talented individuals, and I look forward to working closely with Ben Atterbury and Bizzy [Day] to lead the theatre into the next chapter".

Co-founder and executive director Bizzy Day said: "Dan has risen up through the ranks of The Other Room, first joining us as an assistant director in early 2015, and has demonstrated an astonishing upward professional trajectory through trainee and associate roles in the company.

"The board and I are in no doubt he is the right person to take The Other Room to new heights."

Under Wasserberg's tenure, the theatre has hosted productions of Sinners Club, Blasted and The Dying of Today, and won The Stage's Fringe Theatre of the Year Award in 2016.
