Dark Comedy Rhyme Without Reason at Unity

The play is being directed by Chris Darwin and tells the story of an old man who has failed in everything he has attempted in life; from school through work, from marriage to parenthood and decides to get his house in order before killing himself.

In doing so he finds an envelope, which contains his attempts at poetry. Through them he relives his time, the people and places he knew, the attitudes, the hopes and beliefs he once held and how his greatest love was always the city of his birth. Despite attempts from his concerned son, the man decides to enjoy himself before he goes.

Darwin said: “For me, theatre is the best form of entertainment, I’ve been working in Liverpool for a number of years and it’s great to see the vibrancy of the city’s arts scene continue to grow. I’m happy to be continuing my work with Vauxy Theatre especially at Unity, which is a brilliant venue to perform at.”

Playing the role of the old man is local actor Carl Chase, who made his stage debut at Liverpool’s Everyman theatre and has since gone on to appear in over 40 theatre productions and 15 feature films including Tim Burton’s Batman. He will be joined on stage by fellow Liverpudlian actor Darren Caine, who plays his son.

Rhyme Without Reason appears at the Unity Theatre from Tuesday 23 until Saturday 27 March. Details of the cast were not disclosed.
