Casting has been announced for the UK tour of David Walliams' children's book The First Hippo on the Moon.

The book is adapted by the artistic director of Les Enfants Terribles Oliver Lansley and the world premiere production will embark on a UK tour at the Hippodrome in Eastbourne in December this year.

The cast for the show includes Dominic Allen, Alice Bounce, Caroline Bowman, Owen Jenkins and Rosie Nicholls.

Originally announced in July this year, there have been additional dates added to the tour, which includes Theatre Royal Windor, Crewe Lyceum, Eastwood Park Theatre and Curve Leicester.

Puppets for the show will be created by Nick Barnes and Finn Caldwell, who worked on War Horse and The Lorax.

Walliams' original book has illustrations by Tony Ross and follows the story of Hercules Waldorf-Franklin III and Sheila who fight to be the first hippo to make it to the moon.

Earlier this year it was announced that Walliams' children's book Gangsta Granny will run in the West End in from August 2017.

The First Hippo on the Moon opens at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne from 13 December 2016 to 7 January before touring throughout the UK.
