Will The King’s Speech be Delivered on Stage???

Multi award-winning (and Oscar nominated) film The King’s Speech, which stars Colin Firth as the stammering George VI, is rumoured to be hitting the London stage later in the year. Speaking to the New York Times at the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards, the film’s writer David Seidler – who is nominated for a best original screenplay Oscar – said: “It will be on the West End of London in the fall, and Adrian Noble is directing it.”

The project actually started out as a play, with Seidler telling the NYT he held a reading at London fringe venue the Pleasance Theatre (fortunately for him, among the audience were director Tom Hooper’s parents, who passed the script on to their son). So a return to the stage in the wake of the film’s global success would come as no surprise, though whether Firth and co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter will reprise their roles remains to be seen.
