Will People Support Arts During Credit Crunch???
The poll was conducted by agency ICM, who interviewed a random sample of over 1,000 adults across the UK. The most popular non-essential expenditure at the present time was shown to be eating out (27%), with buying tickets to a concert, play, opera or ballet coming second with 16% of the vote. Computer games got 12%, digital TV packages 9% while tickets to a sports match or new mobile phone got a lowly 7% each.
It's not all good news though – over 500 of those surveyed said they were most likely to do none of the above. However, 53% conceded that is was important to support the arts during a recession.
