Theatregoers All Aboard for Railway Children Meet & Greet

Last night (29 June), 160 Whatsonstage.com theatregoers descended upon the abandoned Eurostar terminal at

Waterloo Station for a captivating performance of the Olivier Award-winning production,

The Railway Children, based on Edith Nesbitt‘s 1906 classic novel.

The story, told from the reminiscent perspective of three children- Roberta, Phyllis and

Peter, follows their social decline from affluent London to rural Yorkshire after their

father is called away from home under mysterious circumstances. They are forced to adapt to an unfamiliar lifestyle, but are soon

mesmerized by the nearby Railway Station, a focal point of pride for the village

community, where they encounter eccentric Station Manager Mr Perks, played brilliantly by

comedian Marcus Brigstocke.

The show, written by Mike Kenny and directed by Damian Cruden, exceeded expectations

from our diverse audience, ranging from elder to younger.
Afterwards, Whatsonstage.com members were lucky enough to meet with the actors who played the

three children; Amy Noble (Roberta), Grace Rowe (Phyllis), and Tim Lewis (Peter).

Other cast and creatives also joined our members for a post-show drink and chat including

Pandora Clifford and David Baron, as well as Staff Director Neale Birch. Everyone

shared their enthusiasm about being involved with such an innovative project, as well as

signing programmes for some of our young audience, who still appeared to be hypnotised by

the spectacle they had just witnessed.

Feedback from our adult members was also complimentary, with many people full of

excitement and nostalgia about the revival of the timeless classic adapted in such a thoughtful way.

With glowing reviews from critics, satisfied audience members and proud cast members,

The Railway Children looks set to be an enduring success.
