Nunn’s Marriage Gets London Transfer???

Earlier this year, Trevor Nunn returned to Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre, where he launched his career, to direct the premiere of a new stage version of Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage (See News, 12 Jul 2007). Though the production only ran for three weeks in Belgrade’s new 300-seater, it attracted national attention.

Plans are now advanced to bring the production – with its original stars, Iain Glen and Nunn’s wife Imogen Stubbs – to a wider West End audience. The transfer should happen this autumn, though producers are still scouting for the right theatre.

Originally a TV series, the 1973 Swedish film classic follows the highs, lows and infidelities of Marianne and Johan’s marital breakdown. Bergman himself first adapted the story for the stage. This new version has been adapted by Australian playwright Joanna Murray-Smith, who’s best known in this country for Honour, which has had runs at the National Theatre and in the West End.
