Stewart is a British character actor with a 30-year career across television, film, theatre and radio. A graduate of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 1996, he relocated to Bristol in 2005.
He made his screen debut in Fierce Creatures alongside John Cleese and Jamie Lee Curtis, before gaining wider recognition in 1999 as Nick Levick in the acclaimed BBC mockumentary People Like Us. His television credits include Doc Martin, Doctor Who, Small Axe, The Vicar of Dibley, Black Books, Smack the Pony, Dirty Filthy Love and Rescue Me, alongside recent leading roles in I Want My Wife Back and Football Fantastics.
His film work includes Bridget Jones’s Diary, Ali G Indahouse, Nativity 3: Dude, Where’s My Donkey?!, Christmas on Mistletoe Farm and the Bollywood feature Jungle Cry.
Stewart has also enjoyed an extensive stage career, performing with leading theatres including the National Theatre, Birmingham Rep, Leeds Playhouse, Lyric Hammersmith, Rose Theatre Kingston, Exeter Northcott, alongside numerous productions with Bristol Old Vic in his adopted hometown. Most recently, he appeared opposite David Mitchell in Ben Elton’s The Upstart Crow at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End, and in the world premiere of Debbie Isitt’s Military Wives – The Musical at York Theatre Royal.
Alongside his acting career, Stewart is also an accomplished writer and producer. He has collaborated on two late-night series for BBC Radio 4, the multi award-winning short film Knights of the Realm, and a range of self-produced live shows performed at venues across the UK.
