Full cast announced for The Grapes of Wrath
John Steinbeck's classic opens in Southampton in March
Full casting has been announced for Abbey Wright's production of Jim Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath which opens at Nuffield Southampton Theatres on 14 March.
Adapted by Frank Galati, the play is based on Steinbeck's book about an American family at the height of the Great Depression. The family begin a journey along Route 66 to California to try and start a new life. Galati won the 1990 Tony Award for Best Play for his dramatisation of the story.
Brendan Charleson (The Herbal Bed) will play Casy, Charlie Folorunsho (The Trial) plays Pa and Andre Squire (The Refugee Boy) plays Tom Joad.
The cast also includes Ben Bland (Connie), Daniel Booroff (Noah), Shiv Jalota (Al), Jim Kitson (Uncle John), Pamela Merrick (Granma/Elizabeth Sandry), Amy Molloy (Rose of Sharon), Harry Napier, Alexander Newland (Muley/narrator/vocalist), Heronimo Sehmi (Grampa) and Julia Swift (Ma).
Nuffield associate Abbey Wright directs the co-production with Nottingham Playhouse, Royal & Derngate, Northampton and West Yorkshire Playhouse.
The play opens in Southampton on 14 March before touring to each of the co-producing venues.
The Grapes of Wrath opens at Nuffield Southampton Theatres on 14 March, with previews from 6 March. It then goes on to tour to Nottingham, Northampton and Leeds.
