Tara Minton – In the Footsteps of Dorothy Ashby

About the Show

Tara Minton is an Australian born harpist, vocalist and composer. She is proudly endorsed by Camac Harps and holds a master’s degree in jazz performance from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Sought after as both a harpist and vocalist, Tara has worked with Björk, Tom Walker, ESKA, Stan Sulzmann, Geoff Gascoyne, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars and the Australian World Orchestra for the BBC Proms. She leads her own original project as a harpist/vocalist and sings with “The Blues and Roots Ensemble” – a London based nine-piece band and charity celebrating the music of Charles Mingus. Tonight’s concert celebrates the music and life of the great jazz harpist, Dorothy Ashby. Revered as the “Queen of Jazz Harp”, Dorothy Ashby was a true pioneer, releasing 11 albums as a band leader as well as recording with Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Womack, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and more – truly one of the forgotten greats of the 1950’s jazz era.
