About the Show

Two British songwriters, Julian Slade and Sandy Wilson, have been bracketed together ever since the immortal words “I’m Julian, and this is my friend Sandy” were uttered. Yet what they had in common – one colossal hit mid-1950s show each: Salad Days and The Boy Friend – was offset by their very different musical and lyrical personalities. And friends they were not! Julian v Sandy celebrates their hugely entertaining catalogue of songs, ranging beyond the familiar scores to explore Follow That Girl, Valmouth, Trelawny, His Monkey Wife and other lesser-known shows. Two contemporary British composer-lyricists – Tony/Olivier Award nominee Jason Carr and Ivor Novello Award/Oscar nominee Gary Yershon – are joined by versatile singer-actress Elena Ferrari (Young Vic’s Street Scene, Opera North’s Carousel) for a fresh look at the joyous and often hilarious work of this beloved, but often underestimated (non) duo.
