Sam Shepard's Fool for Love set for Kings Arms, 9 Nov

Directed by Helen Parry, the classic play is being staged next month.

Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Sam Shepard’s Fool for Love is being staged in the intimate surroundings of Salford’s fringe venue The King’s Arms Theatre, directed by Helen Parry.

Fool for Love tells the tale of two former High School lovers who became involved in a tempestuous and passionate relationship. Fifteen years later In a stark motel room on the edge of the Mojave Desert, May, a dishevelled young woman sits dejectedly on a rumpled bed while Eddie, a rough-spoken rodeo performer crouches in a corner fiddling with his riding gear.

Sam Shepard is an American playwright, actor, television and film director. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for his play Buried Child. In 1983 he was nominated for The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff.

Helen Parry's recent credits include: The Box of Tricks (24:7 Festival), Hidden (UK Tour), Look Back in Anger (Manchester University), and Raving Beauties (Dancehouse Theatre).

The play stars Pat Lally as Eddie, Derek Melling as The Old Man, Mark Roberts as Martin and Emily Spowage as May. It's produced by James Baker for James Baker Productions.

Fool for Love is at the King's Arms from 9 – 12 November.
